Where is your mind right now? Without judging the findings, chances are you may have been thinking about something in the future or trying to resolve something from the past. 

We are hard-wired to scan for problems and threats. Research shows that we spend about 50% of our waking hours in this state of mind called the default mode network. 

There is another way though and that is with mindfulness; being present to more moments of your day without judgmentas you live them. Is this a day that you can tip the scales and be present more than 50% of the time to what is happening, as it is happening?? You may be surprised with how wonderful it feels to live more of your moments fully.

REFLECTIONS FROM A 15 DAY SOJOURN HEADED SOUTH

How many of us anticipate that our vacations will be truly a break from the grind of our daily realities? Probably most of us, right! I know I can have these expectations. Anyhow, they were quickly squashed as we headed South for our 2,300 mile road trip in mid April. Our first stop was Cape May, New Jersey. I had heard about this birder's paradise for years and was truly excited to pull out my binoculars that were buried deep in the closet for this excursion. After settling into our camp site at a nearby family owned campground, we made our way into town in pursuit of the birds!! Let me tell you something, birds don't appear on command. We wandered through a swampy area listening to the melodious sounds of a number of birds. Maybe it was the time of day, but they all seemed well hidden from view. As we walked the boardwalk around the perimeter of various bodies of water, I released my need to see the birds and instead allowed myself to absorb their sweet songs as the wind whipped up around us. This was lesson # 1, things don't always work out like you had hoped they would. There are many lessons to come as we lived this 15 day adventure.
