Where is your mind right now? Without judging the findings, chances are you may have been thinking about something in the future or trying to resolve something from the past.

We are hard-wired to scan for problems and threats. Research shows that we spend about 50% of our waking hours in this state of mind called the default mode network.

There is another way though and that is with mindfulness; being present to more moments of your day without judgmentas you live them. Is this a day that you can tip the scales and be present more than 50% of the time to what is happening, as it is happening?? You may be surprised with how wonderful it feels to live more of your moments fully.

Ok, admit it, how often do you arrive at your destination to realize somewhere in your travels your mind has wandered someplace else? We all do this sometimes, some more than others. What would it be like if we could replay those moments and bring mindful awareness back to the experience of driving? Perhaps we would notice our surroundings, maybe we would be aware of what is happening inside of us. The list of possibilities is limitless.

Here’s the challenge for this day ahead. See how many of your daily activities can be mindfully lived. When you arise in the morning, notice how your body feels upon awakening. Take the time to savor and enjoy your morning breakfast. Really taste your first sips of coffee or tea. Pretty glorious, right? If you are washing the dishes, bring your full attention to how the warm, soapy water feels on your hands. See the accomplishment of your efforts as the dirty dishes are transformed into clean surfaces.

Eating is a great activity to be bring mindfulness onboard. Research finds that participating regularly in Mindful Eating slows down the meal and a level of fullness is arrived earlier than when a meal is wolfed down in minutes.

So have some fun with this challenge today. You may find that applying mindfulness to your daily life sharpens your experiences. The good news is that this challenge only asks you to pay attention and notice the life you are already living. Fully enjoy your discoveries!!
