Where is your mind right now? Without judging the findings, chances are you may have been thinking about something in the future or trying to resolve something from the past. 

We are hard-wired to scan for problems and threats. Research shows that we spend about 50% of our waking hours in this state of mind called the default mode network. 

There is another way though and that is with mindfulness; being present to more moments of your day without judgmentas you live them. Is this a day that you can tip the scales and be present more than 50% of the time to what is happening, as it is happening?? You may be surprised with how wonderful it feels to live more of your moments fully.

Mindful Self-Compassion is a wonderful remedy for holiday blues. Not all of us are chomping at the bit to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or any of the other festivals of light. Loss of a loved one, family discord, illness, or financial worries are just a few factors that can interfere with feeling jolly. As your senses are bombarded with the sights of colorful holiday lights, the sounds of nonstop holiday tunes, the overabundance of sweet, sugary treats and the bustling around you, can you pause and take a moment to bring warm-hearted attention to yourself? Let the swirl of the holiday’s frenetic energy bypass you as you hold steady to the groundedness of one breath following upon the next. Remember too, the holiday is just another day, and it too shall pass.
